Life Update

Exercise started with weight training only for four weeks and I've added in cardio over the last two weeks.  I'm doing Jamie Eason's Live Fit.  Build muscle for Phase 1 week 1-4, start to lean a little by adding cardio to the weight training for Phase 2 week 4-8 and then lean out with HIIT/Cardio for phase 3 week 9-12.  I'm currently on phase 2 week 7.  The first 4 weeks I did all at home with dum bells, resistance bands and ankle weights then once I added cardio I went back to the gym.  I've been going almost every day which is more then I ever imagined I could tolerate going to the gym.  I faced the free weight section with all the buff guys even though I was terrified and it's gotten better.  I feel more comfortable working the equipment and a lot less like everyone is staring at me now.  I plan to continue on phase 2 of this plan for the full four weeks.  The last four weeks is a lot of HIIT/plyometric training combined with weights.  I will follow it but chances are I won't do it in 4 weeks because it's 6x per week and will be harder on my knees.  I'm going to focus on the body parts I care about most so I'll cut back on shoulders, chest and back and focus on legs, butt, abs and lower back if I have to cut days. My arms have always been really toned and now they are getting even more cut so I'm fine with where those are at.  I really don't want to be too buff.  I'm probably going to do more at home since there are jump ropes and jump squats etc that I can do at home where I don't have to worry about a crowded gym.  There is little time for anything else working out this much.  It takes me about an hour to get through the weight training part and then there is another 30 minutes of cardio.  Last night I didn't get home until 7:30pm.  I jumped into the shower and dinner was at 8:00pm which is way later then I'd like to be eating.  I actually wasn't even hungry but I gotta keep up the eats.  I didn't wear my HRM for the first month since it was just weights.  Turns out I burn a lot more calories lifting weights then I expected.

The Meal Plan is still ongoing.  To recap.  January to June 15th I tried upping calories on my own and focused on hitting 1,200 consistently.  I found someone online to make a meal plan for me because it felt impossible to get to 1,500 on my own the healthy way.  I was really scared to do it,  I didn't know what to eat and I needed some hand holding.  June 15th-July 20 I consistently ate 1,500.  With the addition of cardio starting July 21st I upped the calorie goal to 1,600-1,800.  Most of the time I'm in the 1,600-1,700 calorie range.  I am eating more food then I've ever eaten.  I'm rarely hungry so that keeps away the sweets and junk cravings.  Half the time it's a struggle to fit it all in.  I don't ever plan 'cheat meals' because life has a way of making them happen on their own.  I mostly stay on plan and eat the same thing every day unless an outing pops up.

I'm on my own now as the girl provided me with one diet and 6 weeks of e mail support so I've been upping the calories by adding more protein and carbs as I need the fiber.  A while ago when I tried to eat high protein I ended up constipated and it happened again on this meal plan.  When I asked her about it she said protein should not do that and I'm probably not getting enough fiber.  I added back my 1/2 cup fiber 1 cereal daily and that did the trick.  The sweet spot for my body is 35-40 grams of fiber and that's the best way for me to get a lot of it.  I've been more regular then I've ever been.  I've been going daily which I never ever in a million years even thought was possible.  If I don't go daily it's usually just a one day skip.  I guess I'm finally getting enough food and fiber which has never happened at the same time.  When I had my metabolic testing done I was 1,500 BMR, 1,700-1,800 weight loss and 1,900 for maintenance.  I am not losing on 1,700-1,800 right now, but I'm hoping that with enough time my body will trust me again and then I would.  The girl who did my meal plan also had metabolic damage and said it took her 8 months before she was able to start loosing weight again so I know I have a long road ahead of me.  I plan to stick with this plan for three months shooting for 1,600 on rest days and 1,700-1,800 on work out days and then re evaluate.  I don't ever see myself shooting for 1,900.  This really should be plenty of food to get my metabolism on track.  Please just let me stop gaining!!! Maybe I can get more flexible with the foods after that since I have a better idea on how to eat.  I cut out the slice of bacon at breakfast because it's sodium and I can add some extra protein elsewhere and I'm not so sure about the two eggs because of the cholesterol.  I'm scheduling blood  work to see how my cholesterol levels are doing but I'll probably cut down to one.  I drink a protein powder shake just mixed with water on work out days (if I don't forget) and on non work out days the rice is 3 oz or I always have the choice of a tortilla.  Eating like this is hard!! It's hard to stay on top of it especially on less structured weekends.  It's expensive, I'm constantly running out of eggs, chicken and veggies.  It's just really hard to keep up with the food but I know it's really important for me to do this right now so I'm doing it and trying not to get too discouraged.  Thank god for skirts and dresses.

Weight134.6

Weight is up as per usual.  Higher and higher it goes where it stops nobody knows.  I did gain weight after my vacation.  I went back to 1,500 calories when we got back and promptly gained 1 lb.  That was 1.4 lbs on vacation and then 1 lb after I went back on the diet.  I was DEVASTATED.  I was so upset but there was nothing to do but keep going.  Those 2.5 lbs have stuck unfortunately and I'm at 134.2.  I feel so LARGE.  I hate my butt.  I hate my thighs.  The thigh gap from knee to crotch is gone and I'm still down to just the one pair of jeans that fit.  It's pretty miserable.  I'd say this whole weight gain debacle was pretty well played on my part though.  The last time I was able to fit into my size 26's comfortably was November.  I went on vacation in December and came back bigger.  Then, I had my surgery in January.  I have gained about 12 lbs since then and that's on top of the 5 lbs that I'd already gained from my then 'comfortable' weight of 118 which I haven't seen since February 2013.  That's 17 lbs heavier then people were used to seeing me over the course of 1 1/2 years!!  Yikes.  My 'story' is that I started making an attempt to eat more prior to surgery to make sure that my body could handle the surgery.  Then, after surgery I had to wear skirts and dresses until my belly healed and I could get into pants.  When I was able to start working out I decided to jump into weight training which caused me to bulk up.  There.  Perfect excuse for why I got fat.  I have a way to explain it.  The real story is that I starved myself for too long, shot my metabolism and uncontrollably gained weight but that's way too embarrassing to admit.  I was hoping my bodies set  weight was 130 max and now I'm hoping it's 135.  I just don't want to get bigger.  Hubby says I've only gotten sexier.  I just wish I agreed. At 5'7" it could be worse but I miss being thin.  I feel very self conscious because I can't imagine that people haven't started to notice.  No one has said anything, but I imagine at some point it will happen.  It shocks me that hubby was surprised when I said I couldn't fit into any of my jeans.  I'm so much bigger so how could I?  What's really weird is that a few weeks ago I wore a pair of pants which is unusual these days.  I have 2 that I can still fit okay.  The lady I see all the time says, "what size are you? 3-5?"  I lied and said 5.  She commented because she thought I looked slim I guess which is shocking.  I still feel large.  I just want to be a skinnie minnie again.

Life is good.  Most weekends I fit in cleaning, gym and whatever plans we have. I really can't complain too much aside from the fact that there aren't enough hours in the day or weekend.  Also, getting up in the morning is hell.  I go to bed between 8-9pm but getting up is always so hard.  If I go to bed any sooner I'll only be up for like an hour on gym days in which to fit in shower, dinner and any semblance of life.  Hubby is awesome.  He makes my chicken and fixes my plate a lot because I get home so late.  We are going to Vegas this weekend and have another awesome vacation coming up in September to NYC.  We have been having sex regularly again which is so great.  I basically have what I'm going to call chronically irritated vaginal disorder.  The doctor has done everything she can but we don't know why it won't just go away.  I manage the symptoms on my own with things like boric acid, Rephresh Pro B, Aci gel and hydro cortisone cream.  I had a flare up over the last week but the boric acid nipped it in the bud and it's feeling better then it has in a long time.  I hope it stays that way for a while at least.  I officially finished my novel about two months ago.  I printed it out for my mom a few weeks ago.  She is the first person to read it.  I'm not sure what I'll do with it if anything.  I have no idea if it sucks or what.  I'm taking a break from it while my mom's reading it so I can look at it again with fresh eyes.

Money.  I cut down on the shopping a lot which was necessary because I had a bunch of airline tickets to pay for and it just got so annoying that so much of my money was going to clothes.  I've got a solid wardrobe of skirts, dresses, and long tops to cover my booty so I'm good.  I did just buy 2 long tops and a top for this weekend at Target but for the most part I am not online shopping and I don't feel like I want to buy all the things.  I'm still holding out on buying jeans.  I hate the way my body looks in pants period and I just keep getting bigger and bigger so...I don't know what to do.  My laptop finally died and hubby ran to the apple store and picked up a new one without me knowing but I'm glad he did it.  I got the MacBook Air.  The process would have stressed me out.  I had NYC, Vegas airline tickets AND  a $1,100 laptop to pay for so I just dipped in my savings to take care of it which I rarely do but that's what it's there for.  Hubby would have let me pay for it over time but I didn't want him having interest on his card and I just wanted it to be over so I wouldn't have to think about it.  There are trips, birthdays and contact lenses coming up so I'm just trying to spend as little as possible.

Work really sucks right now.  I just web surf all day and basically feel like a piece of crap for not doing much work.  On the other hand there isn't much work to do and when things do heat up as they are going to very soon I'll be hanging on for dear life.  I don't think anybody is doing a whole lot right  now.  Summer is slow.

I feel very ignored here.  S is the big boss and we've never had a super close and chatty work relationship so there is nothing new there and I'm okay with that.  E (who is technically my supervisor) and I always were close but now she totally ignores me day to day and it's taken me a bit of time to stop my feelings from being hurt over this.  I didn't think she could ignore me any more and then she did.  E, S and D have their little clique where they chat constantly, update each other on their lives and get coffee and lunch together in groups of 2 or 3.  E used to stop by my door to chat and we knew what was going on in each others lives but those days are over and done.  It started deteriorating as early as end of last year.  I tried to stay friendly but got tired of trying when she wasn't and now it's nothing.   Her drastic departure from being my work friend is pretty extreme but if she doesn't want to be my friend anymore so be it.   I know nothing about what's going on with the new baby or the new house.  She barely speaks to me and if D or S aren't at their desks she turns right around and walks by my open doorway without a word.  They go to each other to chat about things and I got tired of pushing my way in all the time so now I just sit at my desk and keep to myself while they chat and giggle away.  I come and go silently.  They don't ask me how my vacation is or how my weekend was and I don't ask them.  D and I will chat now and then as we always have one on one but when she is group chatting with S and E I usually stay out of it.  Chances are (especially if it's about E or S) I've not been privvy to any of the information they are chatting about so I feel like I'm butting in.  When it comes to work stuff sometimes I hear them talking about things but I'm not going to ask what's going on.  I figure if I need to know they will tell me.  Things are just very awkward between E and I since we used to speak and now we barely say hello.  There were a lot of things that really used to bug me about her work wise that I swallowed and dealt with okay because I really liked her and we were buddies so we'll have to see how that goes this year.  M is also sort of an "outsider" of that clique but even she talks to E more then I do.  I chat with M more then anyone now.  She is on vacation right now so I feel very alone.

Things are going to get very busy soon and I'm still in denial about actually having to work.  Hopefully, I'll be okay once things start up but right now I am in a major job rut.  Also, I hope the overall dynamic in our office doesn't screw me up too bad.  I never loved it, mostly liked it in the way that you 'like' something because it's really not so bad and you need a paycheck.  I actually do like all the ladies that work here so that always helped but the little 'clique' and the silent treatment from E can be unnerving sometimes.  I hope it doesn't make me unhappy here.

Metabolic Testing

So I did it.  I coughed up the $125 for the metabolic testing and I'm glad I did.  You can't do all the online calculators in the world but unless you are medically tested yourself it's all just a guesstimate.  I needed medical evidence of what my metabolism was and what I should be eating.

I'm going to start with my results from past biometrics testing just so I have everything in one place.

(I told her I was looking to lose about 5lbs although really it's about 9).

What this tells me is that in order to maintain my basic bodily functions such as breathing, heart beating and brain fuctions is 1,486 calories.  My metabolism is not screwed and it's crazy to think that I used to exist on almost half of that.  She says that she would think I would be pleasantly surprised.  Mind blown because it is actual science telling me this. I fasted for 12 hours priors, did not exercise for 24 hours prior and sat in a chair with a breathing mask and these were the results based on my body and not some online calculations.  Which turns out were fairly accurate.  This tells me that I need to be eating more.  She confirmed that the 25% Fat, 50% Calories and 25% protein ratio that I have been doing since the 1st was accurate.  Unlike the nutritionist who claims that a calorie is a calorie is a calorie she says that the composition of what you eat matters and makes a different in weight loss.  Which is what I always thought.  For everything else I'm shooting for Sodium: 1800mg or less, Sugar 40g or less and Fiber 30 minimum.  It's a balancing act.

The TDEE/IIFYM calculator link is pretty right on.  I did their Total Daily Energy Expenditure calculator in every way possible and the lowest calorie count I came up with that it recommends is 1,666 calories per day for maintenance and then for "reckless" fat loss it was 1,333.  I'm glad I know for sure where my body is it's just a matter of seeing if I can apply it.  My BM's have been regular.  I've been drinking about 48 oz of water per day and not retaining it which is good.  I actually pee like a normal person.  Although, I still find that I retain on the weekends and I have no idea what it is about going to work that allows me to let out what comes in.  I have even started drinking coffee on the weekends and I try to keep up the water and it's still an issue. Weird.

Since the New Year I was afraid to cut calories too much so I focused on the 25/50/25 ratio and cut from 1,300 to 1,200.  According to my test results this is too low.  I am totally terrified of increasing but I think I want to give it a shot in the name of science.  I went ahead and put 1,500 as my budget in Lose It but I am shooting for 1,300 right now and I will raise that slowly until I get to 1,500 and see how I feel.  Maybe that's why when I got back from Hawaii I was 125 lbs and I haven't seen that number since forever.  That tells me that I could presumably try the higher calories for about 8 days and really, really try not to freak out because I've done it before.  The difference would be that it is truly intentional; not a screw up and I would be eating healthy since I'm not on vacation.

Turns out when you actually eat a proper balanced diet and stick to it you cannot eat too much junk and sweets.  There simply isn't room if you want your percentages to come out right.  You can also eat a heck of a lot more food when it's nutritionally dense.  How easy it is to eat a giant unhealthy meal or a bunch of empty junk and burn through 1,000 calories in one sitting.  Yesterday I couldn't even get in all the food I planned because I didn't get home until 8:30pm.  Today I planned ahead feel like there is so much food!  And I'm not even hungry.  It definitely cuts the snacking urges big time.  I've been playing around with foods in the app to see what I can and can't eat to keep the numbers right and this is what it looks like.  I still have my fiber 1 cereal, carrots and Greek yogurt to gobble down before I leave work and I'm not even hungry.  I'm trying to do the protein at lunch which I would have never done in a million years before so that I don't get hungry.  Dinner looks kinda funny.  Based on where I was at during the day that's enough for me to get in what I need to meet my calorie AND percentage goals.  It's really hard to stay on exact numbers for percentages too so I don't expect that as long as I get close.   I probably need to start fitting in even more food during the work day because that's a lot to eat when I get home before bed.  I may drop the ice cream.  I just added it because I needed more carbs and it put me to 1,300.

So that's where I'm at right now.  My goal is to make it to 1,500 and then see how I feel from there.  I really cannot imagine eating 1,700 calories if 1,300 feels like a ton.  If the scale starts to go up I'm going to freak out.  And then what?  I'm really glad that I know for sure where my metabolism is though so I can at least try to move forward.  She says she's tested women who have below 1,000 on their metabolic rate.  I was afraid that's what I was looking at but it turns out I'm better off then I thought.  I feel huge.  My mind is anxious and I'm still really scared but at least this test has eased some of my fears.  I just don't get it.  Why do most diets tell you to eat 1,200 calories when I have a metabolism that supposedly needs 1,500 just to function and live.  Why do I still gain when I eat what is supposedly what would make me loose?  How could I possible eat 1,900 calories which is supposedly maintenance and not expect to be as big as a house?  I'm so confused.  She said trust me.  This is how much you can eat.  I really want to believe her.

Tofu, Veggies and Egg Whites

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.  Well call me insane then.  I'm just not ready to eat 1,300 calories a day.  I'm just not.  There are days that I might hit 1300 but that is never the goal.  Part of me is convinced that my metabolism is screwed up and the other part of me feels like I had been eating way too much to actually destroy a metabolism.  Isn't that how I got in this situation in the first place?  Too much food.  I've discovered Tofu.  It's going to be my new favorite food.  Low calorie, low fat, zero sodium, high protein, low carb and very clean.  The perfect food.  I made it last night with veggies and Teriyaki sauce and it was pretty delicious and filling.  I could have included more vegetables.

Today I plan to eat almost exactly the same thing as I did yesterday.  After yesterday's weigh in I needed a day as close to clean as I get when I'm juicing but without juicing.  Mostly fruits and veggies.  I wanted to eliminate as much dairy and even chicken and "other" stuff as I could to see what it is that might be causing me problems.  Monday was bad with the two Donuts but Tuesday was okay and and then Wednesday was even better.

I'm going to shoot for lower fat days then I have been which means giving up a lot of my beloved cheese.  Instead of Fat/Carbs/Protein at 30/40/30 I'm going to shoot for closer to 25/50/25 with the bulk of my carb being "good" carbs like fruits/veggies/whole wheat's.  Yesterday's weight was the highest EVER! It's really disgusting and even though I think I was retaining a lot of water I felt so awful all day about it.  My goal is to truly stick with this until hubby leaves next month.  That will be my first goal.  Then, to continue it until he gets back.  It's so much easier to focus and eat what I need to eat without him around but I don't want to wait until he leaves because I have a feeling this is going to take a long time.  If it works at all.  I'm going to be eating Tofu and egg whites like they are going out of style and stay away from meat and cheese as much as possible.  I'll get my protein from the egg whites and tofu instead and load up on fruits and veggies.  I'm almost done with the level 3 of shred.  After that I will go back to doing more cardio but I'm definitely going to continue working in the 30DS because I really like it.  I also want to mix in some of my power Yoga and Pilates videos.  Some of which I bought last year but haven't even tried out yet.

I just can't quit.  I don't know why, even though I want to so badly.

Disappointed

So this is fun.  I ate almost perfectly yesterday.  My only indulgence was that I couldn't keep my hands out of the mixed nuts but other then that I ate clean and exercised only to be rewarded with a 1.4 lb weight gain making that a total weight gain of 2.2 lbs since Monday.  Nice.  I also haven't had a BM since Sunday so I'm sure that isn't helping matters any.  How can you not have a BM when you are eating clean, exercising, sucking down tons of water, drinking fiber AND taking cleanse pills?  Well if anyone can do it I can! I'm trying not to be too upset about it but it is very disappointing.  I'd at least hope to maintain, jeez!! I'm trying not to let it get to me but it's hard.

My work out yesterday was tough because I was sore.  that's probably why I didn't burn as many calories as I did the first day.  I was super hungry so I made a giant salad to fill up.  I needed something that I knew I could eat a lot of but that would fill me up.  I can feel the BM sitting in my gut which is very uncomfortable so hopefully that happens today.

Advocare // 30 Day Shred Day 1

I have to say that after a very good day yesterday I'm very disappointed to have gained 0.8 lbs.  I'm going to try not to let it frustrate me and keep going.

The Thirty Day shred level one wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be.  Challenging but not hard.  I am not even sore today.  I will probably do it another day or two as is and then up my weights from 2 1/2 to 5.  I'll also be trying to do more man push ups then the modified ones each time I do it.

Yesterday I had a fiber shake and some cleanse pills from the Advocare packet.  I also had another fiber drink today.  It's super thick and gets thicker the longer it sits so after yesterday I learned to add a little bit more water then they suggest and just guzzle it down.  Don't sip.  I got the Citrus one an it doesn't taste bad at all.  I think I have another packet of 3 cleanse pills for tonight.  Thinplse, there is no meal guide insert that goes with Advocare.  I'm just trying to stay as close to 40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat as possible and no candy and chocolate.  I'm also trying to eat as cleanly as possible.  If I have crackers or something like that like I did last night because I was hungry I want to stick to a serving.  I have been allowing coffee and will allow a glass of wine if I go out.  The calorie budget at the moment is 990 but I can see myself upping that a little if I'm able to still stick with clean foods.  That's it.  Part of my plan was not to let myself get too hungry and I was still pretty hungry after eating dinner last night and I'm starving right now.  I'm going to stop at the store on the way home to pick up fresh and frozen veggies and fruits and just eat them up to fight the hunger.  Ideally, they will fill me up and not kill my calorie count.  My cals have been pretty low since Wednesday since I went from juice and haven't exceeded 1,000 calories yet.  I'm feeling it, but I don't want it to make me weak. I'd rather try to fill up on something clean.

I did not have a BM today which kind of sucks but I've never been one to go daily anyways.  I plan on doing the shred again today.  For dinner I think I'm going to make a nice salad with grilled chicken.  We'll see where I end up tomorrow.

Hubby took some before and after pics of me in short black spandex and a sports bra.  I'm not fat.  I know I'm not.  I will admit that my before pics look better then some people's after pics.  I just feel disgusting.  I want to tone and get to a weight that makes me feel better about myself.  I'd be happy with anywhere between 115-118 right now.

I'm super tired.  Work sucks because I'm so sleepy and so unmotivated about being here.  I fear I may be burnt out on my job.  I'm sure I'd feel better if I'd just let myself get enough sleep.  Half way done.

Update:  It's almost 24 hours since the work out which is when I normally start to feel sore and I feel it in my Bicepts, Chest and Back.  No surprise there because I NEVER lift with my upper body.  My calves are also a little sore.

Juicing to Healthy Eats

I did my juice fast last week starting Wednesday and ending on Friday afternoon.  I debated about breaking the fast that day and probably would have continued were it not for a planned lunch with my mom and sister.  BUT-I made a great food choice so I'm okay with it and technically it was still 72 hours.  We went to PF Chang's and I just got Their Buddha meal which is Steamed Veggies, Tofu and Brown rice.  I felt so proud of myself and despite eating out every single day since Friday that streak has continued.  Normally, it's where I fail but I just couldn't do it this time.

I started my fast at 123 on Wednesday and by Friday I was 119.6 lbs.  After breaking the fast and eating on Saturday I was 120 lbs and I have maintained that weight all weekend.  I seriously can't believe it.  Saturday morning for breakfast I got egg whites and added a bit of hubby's chorizo into it.  I felt satisfied all day and when I went home and sat on the couch to watch TV there was no snacking.  I didn't eat again until we went out that night.  For dinner that night I got a Chicken Caesar Salad.  I ate out TWICE in one day and did not gain.  This is quite a miracle.

My older sister however didn't do so well.  She is overweight and exercises like crazy but she can't seem to get her diet together.  We hung out together with my family on Friday and Sunday.  Thursday they ordered Pizza, wings and potato wedges at my mom's house.  Thank god I wasn't there.  Friday her and my mom got the PF Chang's four course meal that includes dessert.  She also had a beer there and then came home and had one at my house.  Saturday she ate more Pizza, wings and potato wedges.  On Sunday when we went out to breakfast with my dad she got the Cinnastack French Toast which is basically French Toast that eats like a cinnamon roll.  I got an egg white omelet hold the cheese.  I did have one of my mom's pancake but it was just one and I knew it wouldn't mess me up as it was only 153 cals.  Seeing my sister so out of control was a reflection of exactly what I've been doing for months and months on end.  It was almost sad to see that she wasn't strong enough to fight the food cravings.   Normally my food cravings beat me down but this time I won!  I feel like this is the first time that I have actually broke my fast the way that I should have with mostly clean eats.  Well, I have but never for more then 1 day which is not enough.  I did gain, but I didn't even feel so bad about it because it was 0.4 and not a whole pound and I have maintained since.

Today I started the Advocare herbal cleanse.  A few people at work have been talking about it so I figured I'd give it a try.  Thinplse; here is the link if you are interested in checking it out.  I ordered mine on Amazon.  It's 10 days of a mix of a powder fiber drink mixed with water, pro biotic pill packets and cleansing pill packets.  The directions tell you what days to take which things and what time of day to do it.  Today was just the fiber drink; which is 70 calories.  That kinda sucks but oh well.  When I get home it's day 1 of the 30 days shred.  I have two happy hours to go to this week but I am determined that I will not screw up.  I actually feel confident about being able to keep this going.  I have my foods planned out for those meals out already and I just need to stick with it.  My sodium has been a little higher then I would like but I've been free flowing all weekend and had a BM this morning.

I was going to do food pics but then I missed out on a few foods so here are screen shots from Lose it instead.  I'm feeling pretty good right now and I'm going to try really hard to keep it up.

Survived the Juice Fast

My five day juice fast went well.  It was hard but so much easier then having to try stop myself from grabbing a cookie at work.  So much easier then screwing up every other day and then regretting it.   Juicing is a no brainer.  Either you eat food or you don't.  If you don't eat food it's a win.  If you eat food; even a tiny nibble of bread it's a loose.  If your body has to digest anything it's a lose so it's very black and white.  You can't just eat a little and mess up a little.  You eat anything and you have failed totally.  I did drink coffee almost every day but it's not enough to ruin my diet like that extra slice of pizza would.  You might be hungry but you don't sit around craving juice the way you crave food like cheese or something sweet.  You drink your juice and when it's gone it's gone.  Day 1 and Day 2 I was in the zone.  I was mostly just super sleepy and then that went away by Day 3.  Day 5 was the hardest.  I was just over it.  I felt like I was hollowed out and I was really tired.  It has been a busy work week and I had 2 photo shoots so that all could have been part of it.  The hunger pangs are worse when you are restricting.  I finally broke my fast on Friday with some raisins, cheese and Fiber 1.  As soon as my stomach got a hold of those raisins is when my stomach growled louder and harder then it had all week.  I even had a small bowel movement off that little bit of food the very next day after not going all week.

Even with all those carbs and all that sugar that comes with juicing I lost 6.8 lbs in 5 days.  I started the juice fast on Monday (or technically Sunday night) and I ended it on Friday night.  This morning I weighed in at 115.8; a number that I have not seen in a long time.  A number that I basically had to give up food in order to see again.  I am totally prepared to gain at least half of it back.  I would be thrilled if I don't gain it all back but I have to be prepared for that too.  I have another juice fast planned in May with my mom.   I want to try the cleanse/detox one if the stuff to drink isn't too nasty.  I will not drink Cayenne pepper or anything like that.  I want to make juicing part of my routine now that I know that I can actually do it.  I'd much rather do all juice then low carb or anything else.  My problem is food so the best diet for me is one that eliminates it all together.  I don't see myself ever doing 5 again but 1-3 days about once a month or when I feel like total crap because I've eaten too much seems totally doable.  If only I could eliminate those days I over do it that would be awesome but I think I'm a food addict so I don't know if that will ever happen.  I will do well for a while and then because I've been deprived and I'm starving I'll eat one crappy meal and it will ruin weeks of hard work.  The worse thing is it doesn't even have to be a huge meal for me to gain.  It's like any little indulgence above hard core restriction will do it.  It's a cycle that never seems to end and I'm so tired of it.

Fat Piggy commented that she was worried about being too tired from juice fasting and having it affect her performance at work.  For me, I'd say it was not a factor.  I've been working full time for years and years under so many conditions.  I've worked sick, without very much sleep and without very much food so often that it's just something that I've learned to deal with.  It may be hard but there really is no option but to push through the day and so that's what I always do.  Friday at work was so hard.  I had to wake up at 5:45 am to make sure I made it to my photo shoot at 7:30am.  I didn't finish until 11am.  Then I was at work from 12-5pm.  This is on no food for the whole week.  I just push myself to be productive and keep going even when I just want to crawl under my desk and sleep.  Ednos Linny, was your sister able to maintain her 30 lb weight loss from juicing and if so how?  I assume not pigging out would be one way.

Kitty, thanks for that link about juicing.  I have seen Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.  Those people are amazing for being able to do it for so long.  I honestly was just so over it by day 5.  Part of my problem could have been that I was very stingy with my juice.  I could have drank more but I'm always trying to watch those calories.  Plus, I would miscalculate how many ounces I needed when I was at the store and not buy enough.  On the last two days I actually got tired of juicing so I bought Naked Juice.   The upside was that it was easy and the calories are on the bottle.  It's hard to know what calories I was getting with the juice I made.  I had to guess and I guessed higher then what the Naked Juices are.  The downside is that the Naked juices aren't as "hearty" as the homemade juices.  They seem thinner and less filling.  Plus, it's more expensive.

No Matter How Hard I Try

It simply doesn't matter how hard I try anymore.  I'm fat, my body hates me and my metabolism just might be my worst enemy.  I'm dammed if I do and damned if I don't.  I'd say I'm over it and that I give up and give in and will start eating Pizza any damn time I feel like it but I can't.  I want to quit this madness but I can't.  It wasn't ever a choice in the first place.  It's either be the weight that I want to be or else feel like a worthless lump of a failure inside my own skin.  I'm no good at anything else.  I know that there is more to life but sometimes it doesn't feel like it.  I need to be skinny.  I'm not that smart.  I'm not a roaring success in life.  I'm not the prettiest, my wardrobe and hair are okay and I don't have that many friends.  Being thin is the ONE coveted thing that I can hold onto to feel good about myself even if everything else about me is just so so.  I love many things about my life and I'm grateful for what I got; don't get me wrong but it's ordinary.  It's not the successful well off type of life that I dreamed I might live and I mostly try not to think of the fact that I'm going to grow old and gray working at my same job for at least the next decade and a half because retirement is just another dream.  I used to feel sorry for those dumpy gray haired ladies at my first job out of college who had been there for 15-20 years.  I had stars in my eyes a few years into my time there and the only thing that kept me going was hope that I wouldn't end up like them.

There are talented and smart people in this world.  There are wealthy people who get to enjoy life the way they want to and not drag themselves to work every day at a job that has no substance and hoard away vacation days.  I get it.  It's my fault for not doing or being better.  They knew what to do, how to do it and did what it takes to live the good life.  Either that or they were born at the right place at the right time.  I am not one of those people.  My current life circumstances basically match my level of motivation and ability.  I've learned to accept that.  I don't even have to be the thinnest.  I'm not trying to be ill here like I used to.  I know where to draw the line but I must be thin and it pains me terribly that I'm failing miserably at it right now. It's the only thing I've ever known what it feels like to be a success at.  I don't want to lose at this.

Low Carbs Day 3

I was down 2 lbs this morning.  I'm pretty sure I'm in the ketosis fat burning mode because I have been peeing way more then usual.  Apparently that is one of the side effects.  When your body starts burning fat for energy instead of carbohydrate stores it produces ketones.  One of them is Acetone and the body excretes it in urine.  It's like some kind of science experiment.

Today I went for hard boiled eggs for breakfast.  I ate one whole one and just the egg whites of the second one.  I gotta watch the cholesterol.  I was so hungry by lunch time that I forgot to take a pic of my pickle and string cheese.  I didn't even have enough carbs in the budget for Almonds because of what I had planned for dinner.
I love this Mexican Food place and I was determined to keep the carbs low so that I could afford the 46 grams in these Carne Asada Tacos.  As soon as I got home I put in a movie and hubby ate his Carne Asada Burrito while I devoured this.  So good.  So worth the starving I had to do during the day.  I swear the thought of these tacos kept me going.

I've learned a lot on this 3 day low carb experiment.  All calories are not created equal.  Duh.  I so knew this but I've been a chronic dieter for over a decade doing it the way I want to carbs and all and held stubbornly to my position that the calorie count is what matters most.  I've learned that if I get more protein in my diet it'll probably push my carb count down because it might force me to eating Chicken Breast instead of Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches.   I fight so hard to avoid "real" foods like meat and veggies but those are the foods that are more likely to help me lose weight.  Not the snacky carby nutritionally void foods.  It's such a mind thing.  I work so hard to deprive myself of food over the years that I want to eat what I crave.  Dammit if I can only eat 800 calories today then it's gonna be what I WANT.  I want what makes me happy and content because I'm often on a starvation level intake.  I also learned that I can do this.  I can NOT eat carbs. I am not totally powerless against them.  It made me look at foods a little differently.

I don't think I see this as a long term alternative for me.  50 carbs 'aint much to work with.  It totally changes what you can eat.  I know I can do better by substituting chicken breast for lunch meat and making more of an effort to cut down on cheese but in general an extreme low carb diet pushes me towards higher sodium, cholesterol, fat  and lower fiber.  When I am limited to 50 carbs my sweet tooth turns into a sodium tooth because that's the only option available for snacks.  My sugar count went way down which is good.  The low carb thing is a mixed bag.  It was nice to focus on something other then calories and fat for a change.  They have ruled me for so long.  There is ALWAYS a number but I liked it that it was a different one and that I got to eat all that cheese.   I can use this diet as an option to get me on track when I screw up because it will happen.  It's inevitable after all when you chronically restrict your foods.  I do want to try to do a better job of watching my carbs day to day.  50 is extreme but under 100 or even 150 might be a reasonable goal to try to stick to.  The proof is in the pudding.  Cutting carbs works.  It won't cure my food addiction, bad habit of munching or my obsession with restricting.  The bottom line is that whatever food plan I choose I have to be disciplined.  Especially since I'm trying to maintain a weight lower then it wants to be.  My will power has been all over the place so I'm glad I made myself stick to this.  It'll be interesting to see if the pounds come back when I go over 50.  We shall see.
