We booked our trip! Or should I say I booked it because I did all the work. I'm flying to Barcelona. I have to spend one night there by myself. Hubby will meet me there. That day we go on a 8 day Mediterranean cruise through Italy and France that leaves and returns out of Barcelona. After that we spend 1 night in Barcelona, 2 nights in Paris and 2 nights in Amsterdam. Well kind of like 1 1/2 because we're taking an overnight sleeper train from Amsterdam to Stuttgart and will fly home from there on an early flight. I have been obsessed upon obsessed with researching for this trip. It's all I've been doing at work every day since there isn't anything else to do. Booking the hotels caused me the most stress. I cannot stay in a dirty hotel. I'm pretty picky about cleanliness and I would be miserable. So while budget is definitely a factor I went over what I originally planned on because I didn't want to take any chances. If I were rich I wouldn't have had to put nearly the time and effort into this but I have to figure out how to get the best value for our money. I can't afford $800 per night but I'm also not going to stay in a dump just because it's less then $100. Even though it started to stress me out a little I really have enjoyed it. The airfare, cruise and hotels are booked. The only thing left to book is the train tickets. I always wondered what a trip to Europe would cost and I just found out. We're going to be there for 14 days. Here are the ugly numbers.
My airfare: $1,02-[round trip]
My Hotel: $77- [Barcelona-1 night]
Cruise: $586 x 2=$1,172
4 Nights Hotel: $339 x 2=$678
Eurail Pass/Res: $532 x 2=$1,064
Trip Total $1,457 x 2=$2,914 (w/o airfare or my Barcelona Hotel)
My Grand total: $2,555
Hubby is lucky because his airfare is paid for because he's already going to be in Stuttgart for work. He will just have to pay to get himself to Barcelona and that's about $175 bucks. We're splitting everything down the middle except for airfare and the hotel I'll be staying in by myself. Wow. I still can't believe I'm going and further still I can't believe that I'm paying all this money for it. I put half on one credit card that I'll pay off in August and the other half on a different card that isn't due until Sept. Everything will be paid for before I go except for our hotel in Spain after the cruise because I don't have to pay until we check out. So yeah, pricey. Were it not for my money saving habits I'd be stressing right now because there is no way I'd feel comfortable just having that sit on a credit card. I'd probably refuse to go before I did that because if I had to charge the whole thing it means I can't afford to go. I have most of the money to pay for it in the bank and I have made an effort to spend as little money as possible this month so I'll have extra to go towards paying it off. It'll be the longest vacation I've ever taken...and the most expensive. I'm really excited.
Work is dragging and I'm tired. My supervisor was here this morning and but I haven't seen her since. I never have any clue where anybody is around here. I've been peeing like a race horse for the last two days and thank goodness because I was retaining tons of water since last week because of my period which started today. There was a BBQ on Saturday and while I did better then the one two weeks prior by no means would I consider it a food success. I ran out of pretzels Sunday which is a very good thing because I am totally addicted to them. I'm sure I'll be getting more but I'm holding out at least a few days. I went to the gym yesterday and did an hour on the elliptical and burned 640 calories. I'm going back today. I ate 812 cals so my net was 172 (not that I really go by net). I woke up this morning 2 lbs down. To have that happen overnight is pretty much unheard of for me. I will just enjoy the number for now because if history repeats itself then it will not last.
Thanks again to everyone for your supportive comments. I'm hanging in there even though my body is driving me insane. I hope everyone is doing okay. It's been pretty quiet in blogger land.
