Dining Out Success

I stepped on the scale this morning with absolute dread.  I ate dinner out last night so I was expecting the worst-but I did not gain.  Miracle.  We went up to see hubby's friend and his wife.  They have a little girl.  She is 3.  She is very sweet but quite a handful and reminder of why I don't want any.   I played hide & seek, read her a book and worked on an art project with her.  Poor mom finally had to take her into the room so we could get a break but she sure didn't get one.  She has another one on the way.  We literally spent all day up there.  I did my house cleaning and laundry in the morning then got dressed and we were on our way up by 1:45pm and didn't get home until 10 something.  I sort of thought they would pay for dinner because the last time we went to dinner when they were down here hubby paid.  The check was split and I can't say I'm too surprised.  I love this couple but they got us a bobble head bride and groom as a wedding gift (we kept it in our laundry room but since gave it away as a gag gift).  I just don't think they quite get it.  Anyhow, Chili's lists calories so I did my research and had three possible meals planned.  I was not too happy to be going out to dinner so close to being back from vacation and I didn't want to screw up.  Hubby wanted to split an appetizer so I went with the side salad and bowl chili.  I only ate 3 of the chicken fajita nachos but those alone totaled about 400 cals!!  Insane.  My whole meal was about 1k which is crazy.  I was very mindful of how my stomach felt and I didn't feel full at all.  I just had water and later when everyone else got ice cream at the ice cream truck and even later when hubby decided to get late night donuts on our way home I had none.  Yep.  There are 2 donut shops open until close to 11 in our neighborhood.  I went to bed at 114 lbs so I thought I'd gain since I seem to normally lose 1/2 overnight but I didn't.  I lost a whole pound and maintained at 113 lbs!!  YES.  I'm still a pound up from where I want but it's better then a gain and it's better then the 114.5 I was at post vacation.  So, it kinda made me feel good to know that I can go out to dinner, make a good decision, eat, not over do it and not gain.  I ended up at around 1,300 for the day which is high but I made good choices so I was able to maintain.  I need to learn how to do this more often.  I've felt like I need to take a dump since yesterday and it STILL hasn't happened but hopefully it will soon.

Today was grocery shopping which I hate but hubby and I go together.  We divide and conquer so got it done in about 1 hour.  We spent $200 bucks but it's been a while since we actually grocery shopped since he's been gone so much and I don't exactly need too much groceries by myself.  I budget for $300 per month even though we rarely spend that so we are still good.  Meat and Cheese is expensive!  Shopping on base definitely helps though.  It's out of the way but it's worth it to go and then we pick up stuff here and there that we need in between.  I'm finally sitting down watching a movie but it feels like I've been on the go all weekend.  My goodness where did the weekend go?

Since I've been back from vacation I've just been watching my intake.  I haven't been back to the gym aside from my two cardio work outs I did right away but I'll go next week.  Tonight hubby is making Beef stew and mashed potato balls (it's German) for dinner so I will be under budget today.

Q & A:
Kitty:  What classes are you taking?
I registered for 3 but I'm wait listed on all the ones I want.  I'm sure to get one because I know the instructor but am waiting to see what happens with the other two.  I do have some back ups as well.  I'll let you know when I find out.

  1. Good job with the dinner out! That is such a struggle. It's taken me like three years to finally be able to navigate eating out successfully....most of the time. Good job resisting the sweets after dinner - that's always the killer.

Meat is so expensive. I've been upping my carbs lately, just so I eat/spend less on meat.

  2. Great job with on dining out and skipping the ice cream and donuts. It's crazy how many cals are in entrees at restraurants!! No wonder so many people are overweight!

  3. Some parents don't know when to "shoo off" the kids when they get guests.. I guess it is cause they look at it as getting a break?? I dunno.. But it sure can be too much at times.

It's great that you didn't gain after the dinner out :)

I was wondering since you mention the #2 issues pretty often. Have to tried adding green tea and prunes to your diet and see if it helps?

Looking forward to hear about the classes :) So exciting. :)
