Water Woes

Yesterday's Eats: [915]
  • Breakfast:  PBJ (235), Coffee (50)
  • Lunch:  RF Cheese It's (150)
  • Snack:  Yoplait (80)
  • Dinner:  Turkey Wrap (400)
How do you gain 1 pound while you are sleeping?  Drink lots of water and don't pee it out.  That's one really, really easy way.  I made a great choice at the game.  A turkey wrap and NO BEER!!!  I was so proud of myself.  The turkey wrap was plain so I was literally just getting tortilla, turkey, lettuce, bacon and shredded cheese.  Good stuff!  And it tasted good too.  I estimate 400 calories or so because it was a pretty good size.  It felt a lot better to eat 400 cals of healthy stuff then 400 cals of greasy fatness.  The fat content is lower and of healthier substance.  There is a difference, although often I choose to ignore that.  It felt so good to have resisted the fries and the hot dogs and the ice cream I could see being consumed all around me.  I sat there debating it in my mind over and over again.  Hubs totally caved and had 2 hot dogs AND fish and chips.  Mon & Tues he's been limiting his diet at work to a sandwich, fruit and yogurt.  By the time he got to the game he simply couldn't resist the temptation.  But I DID!!

By the time we got home it was late so I went straight into the shower and got ready for bed.  Before bed I was 118.  My choice paid off.  I was extremely thirsty and it's been a hot day so I got brave and drank probably about 30 oz of water.  I figured I would be OK.  It's JUST WATER RIGHT?  Well, instead of dropping to 117.5 overnight as I probably would have I gained a whole DAMN POUND.  I did get up to pee in the middle of the night and I peed this morning but obviously not 30 oz worth.  Not nearly as much came out as I would have hoped.  Maybe I am retaining.  AGAIN!!!!!!!  All day I'd been running to the bathroom regularly so I didn't think this would be an issue.

I am a little A LOT annoyed by this.  I know water is good for me and calorie free but this is why I don't like to drink it.  It's a numbers game for me after all and water has the power to inflate those numbers which I hate.  So, I am trying to not be upset about it.  In fact, I should continue to drink lots of water but I was actually doing well with my numbers and I feel like the water ruined it for me so now I don't know what to.  I made the right choice for once and SHOULD have maintained.  But NO.  Instead I have somehow managed to fail again.

The plan?  I will just soldier on as I always have.  Work snacks during the day then for dinner hubby and I are planning to have salads.  Should I still drink plenty of water?  I don't know.  I'm scared.  I was planning on using water to combat overeating actually.  If I drink two glasses of water before anytime I eat I am going to be so full that I won't be able to eat much right?  But, if I retain the water and it inflates my numbers then I'm still going to feel crappy when I get on the scale.  Sigh.

  1. I really think you should keep drinking. I find that the more water i drink the more I flush out. You just have to keep your intake high. You are "technically" supposed to drink a total of 64 oz every day. so ideally that means you should be going to the bathroom ever hour or so.

annoying but you always feel refreshed. maybe the reason why you retain water is your sodium intake? you should spend one day to see how much sodium you consume and then see if it's too high day to day...because if it's to high your body will hold onto as much water as it can so it can dilute out the sodium in your body.

i know cutting my sodium helped me out. and made my skin better too!

  2. Depending on what they used at the ball park there could have been more sodium in the wrap than you think between the turkey and bacon.

Have you thought about switching up your intake? Alternate a high and low day or add a high day after a couple of really low days. Or, and I know you won't like this suggestion - upping your cardio to 45-60 min?

  3. You should KEEP DRINKING!
As much as you can stand. Your body will get better at flushing itself, and eventually you will pee it straight out.
And the girls are right, you probably had loads of sodium in cheap baseball bacon and turkey.
And, you can always take a diuretic when you want to weigh without the water weight... I take Midol because it has a calm one in it that's not so harsh, plus the caffeine and pain reliever just makes your body feel pepped up a bit.

  4. Thanks for the encouragement. I've been looking for dieuretic but it seems everytime I'm in walmart I come up empty handed. Can't seem to find any for some reason. I really don't think I take in that much sodium daily but I will keep that in mind. My body just SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

  5. From what you list in your food journals, I would think you do have a lot of sodium. 300 grams just in cheez its! We should only max out at 1500 grams. And that's a MAX. Yogurt can have 100, and 1 slice of bacon can be as high as 2500!

Coffee and tea is also a natural diuretic. You can also look at midol, caffeine pills, etc.
