Nothing is functional. I reach for my deodorant in the morning on the cluttered shelf and knock over hubby's perfume bottle. My clothes are crammed into my closet and drawers. Everything is wrinkled. The plastic bins under my bed are overflowing. Nothing stays folded because there are just too many things. There are shoes piled by the door. There actually aren't enough spots on the shoe rack to fit every single pair. I've got a few stashed in the closet and every spot in the closet shoe organizer is filled. Every basket I place around the house is filled to the brim with junk. I am constantly working to contain stuff but really there aren't enough containers in the world in this small space.
The hamper always seems to be overflowing and I hate the sheets I have for my way too small full size bed. I am going to have to do laundry this weekend and I am absolutely not looking forward to lugging the clothes the quarters and the laundry detergent up and down the stairs to the laundry room.
The light in the kitchen is still broken. The toilet paper holder hangs askew. The glass shelf I so lovingly put in the bathroom 5 years ago is sagging and no longer able to bear weight. The carpet needs to be cleaned.
Hubby isn't too big on putting things away. So, there are always random articles of clothing strewn over the chairs or the futon. He comes home from work, unloads and our little table is now covered in random things. In a place of this size I am forced to look at every piece of clutter all day. There isn't anywhere else to go. There is a random backpack by the door. Just sitting there. Sometimes we have to kick it out of the way to get in and out of the door. There really isn't any other place to put it.
All of this is driving me crazy. It is dragging me down and making me feel powerless. Add this to my current weight problem and let's just say that I am not a happy camper. I cannot wait to get out of this little shoe box. This place is making me feel annoyed and irritable just by walking in the door.
I remember when I first bought it. I loved my little studio. I decorated it the way I wanted to. It was small but it was all mine and everything was in it's place. Fast forward five years. I have totally outgrown it. Then adding in one person has made it next to impossible to maintain any semblance of order. My sanctuary no more. I want a back yard. I want hubby and I to actually have a reasonable amount of space to put our things. I want more then one tiny closet and two portables that still won't hold everything. I want a laundry room.
It's time to move on. It will happen soon but in the interim...its making me crazy and mean. I don't want to live like this anymore.
Hey Lady!! I'm back!! Check my blog later...
ReplyDeleteAs far as your post: I know exactly how you feel! I live at home with my parents (and will until I'm married off) and the house is about 9,000 sq. ft. but still gets cluttered! Papers, mail, journals, etc. in the kitchen. My dad hangs his suit jackets on the dining room chairs when he comes home in and leaves his shoes under the table. Once, I came home and there were 4 (FOUR!) jackets hanging around the table!
My room is a similar story; I have so many clothes that I haven't worn in years, but I keep them in case I get fatter/skinnier. Add the stuff from college and other knick knacks and oh, boy...
No matter the size of your home, the problem is always the same: you don't need more space, you need LESS STUFF!! Look around... are there clothes you or your husband don't wear? If it's been a year since you've worn something, chances are you won't wear it this year either-- give it away and claim it as a donation on your taxes. Do you live by an Ikea? There are ways to get organized on the cheap. Everything has it's place and you can find containers and storage systems to help with that. Also, if you can, put some stuff away in storage... things you *might* need, but don't need right now and don't want to look at everyday!
It's not easy, I know. I've been saying I'm going to clean my room since Christmas! Do a small corner at a time when you can and before your know it, you'll be done. It's when we try to tackle the whole thing at once is when we get discouraged.
I have an exam tomorrow, so I'll be studying all day today and tonight (once I get off Blogger) but once I get home, I'm going to get my room together by hanging everything up and stop sleeping under my clothes like a hobo...
Good luck, dear!

Yeah, I think you are right, you need another place. I remember living in a one room apartment with 28square meters of space... i could never do this again, but i loved it back then...
ReplyDeleteJust be patient, it will change soon enough, and one day you will miss it...
Take good care...
