New TV Just For The Hell of It

I get home from work and what do I see staring me in the face. Yep. That flat screen TV that he was supposed to give to his mother for Christmas. He had it all set up proudly displaying Monday night football. I was like, "why did you do that? We don't need another TV!" He said that he decided to get his mother a camera instead but that still didn't explain why the darn TV was out of the box it came in. Normally, if you change your mind about a gift wouldn't you just take it back? Especially if it was a $400 gift that you don't really need. Well, not my hubby.

He simply didn't feel like taking it back to the store apparently. My TV is small but it's only temporary because when we move he'll be taking his 52" out of storage and he bought a projector while he was overseas. He also has another regular TV as well (on top of the small one I have). I told him this was very upsetting to me and he had no response. He just went on to talking about other things as if I hadn't said that. So, later before bed I told him that I feel like he doesn't even care that I was upset. I can barely afford to buy some stinkin' leggings that I want and he can blow $400 on a extra TV just for the hell of it. It's not fair. But, the reality of it is that it is fair. If you don't make money you can't have things. If you don't make money you have to maximize every dollar and can't buy something expensive just for the hell of it. I do try to be more liberal when I make an opinion about his purchases because I know that my perspective on money and spending is a bit skewed from the average joe. Even still, I didn't think it was unreasonable to think it made no sense for him to keep that TV.

I told him that he needs to communicate with me and he said that is his downfall. I have noticed. But, the good thing about hubby is that he knows it's a weakness and I know it's something that he will work on as best he can. With a little prodding I was able to get him to actually have a conversation with me about the TV and how I felt about it. I told him how I am afraid that I won't even have money for a wedding dress and he just spent $400 for no reason. He says that I will have a nice dress and that he will make sure I'm taken care of. It's OK there is still going to be enough money for what we need to do and that he does care if I'm upset with him.

Well, for dinner last night I had bagged salad and some of those pre cut Tyson chicken strips I was trying to not let go to waste. A basic chicken salad with low fat dressing. It wasn't all that appealing because of lack of toppings but it was a good break from all of the vacation eating I've been doing.
